Membership Information

Membership of the Bourne Society costs only £10 per year and runs from January 1st to December 31st, irrespective of the month in which you join.  Alternatively you may opt for Life Membership at £150 which insures you against any future rises in the subscription rate. Payment by standing order on your bank or building society account is encouraged. This ensures that your subscription is paid annually without the need for reminders, which are both expensive to the Society and time consuming for a volunteer force of administrative assistants.

Benefits of Membership

  • You are supporting the work of the Bourne Society, the purpose of which is to extend knowledge and appreciation of local history in the area it covers; to ensure the preservation of records and objects of historical interest; and to publish and make available to members and the wider public books, booklets and other printed material pertaining to the local history of the area.
  • You are entitled to attend monthly indoor and outdoor forum meetings of the Bourne Society and Sanderstead Local History Group; to attend meetings of the Pub History Group; to join the Coach Day Tours and longer Heritage Tours (as available); and to participate in the guided Landscape History walks.
  • You receive, three times a year and free of charge, the Society’s journal, Local History Records, normally priced at £5 per issue.

Overseas members, many of whom might have been born, or have ancestors or other connections in the East Surrey area, are always welcome. Overseas members generally opt to receive their copies of Local History Records as pdf attachments to emails, for which the cost of membership will be £10 a year, the same as local members. If you wish to receive the printed copy the cost of membership will be £20 (sent by surface mail) or £30 (by air mail) to account for the cost of postage. Payment can be made by cash in UK pounds, or by bank transfer. Bank transfer details will be supplied upon request (please use the Contact Us page).
